8.25.13 Travel Log Moscow, Russia

I know where my new apartment will be…far away and better than the one I currently have. I move ALL my stuff next month. I will make sure my accidental purchase of meat worth $500 worth goes with me. Long story about that one!
Today turned into autumn already with the cold weather. I refused to listen by wearing sandals on my journey…to visit the clown statues. One sat in front of the clown circus replete with a bronze car to sit in and pretend one is driving to the circus. The next statue was of a clown on a unicycle. The water from the fountain made him look even cooler; as if he were going to fall at any time. Another clown bending down towards a fictitious person beckoned people to almost stare back at him and touch his round nose. I really liked the sitting clown asking to have kids climb on him. They did. They climbed here and there. I did a bit too.

I set off to another place. Suddenly I saw a stretch limo built to look like Cinderella’s carriage in the back; white with gold glitter flouncing in the traffic. Yes. It was a car but barely. This place makes the weirdest limo designs! Then I saw a cool, funky older building. Red brick interspersed with white and with black bricks. It curved behind a church where it became less nice and more old. An Asian woman followed me with her escort ever so close to her. I really wanted to do something to interrupt the body guard but thought it best not to and walked on. Only to notice a car that had not moved in a long time! The leaves on the tires told me so as well as the microwave and fan inside.

I hit the museum next entering another world. Visually modern in an a classical building, I had to pause many times to understand the exhibits. One room had cuts out twirling with light behind it to create shadows. Eerie. I entered a box exhibit after looking into its window to see a tree. Darkness hit me when I entered. I let my eyes adjust to be shocked at what I saw. The ugly tree I saw earlier became shadow art. WAY COOOOOOL! I wanted to stay longer but the next person came. The shoes and syringe becoming bugs bugged me out tooo much. I left that room quickly to enter a room where a head bulged out of a trash can with its feet almost ready to move. Some rooms contained smorgasbord objects seemingly placed randomly but really with a purpose. My purpose was to be confused! Cryptic writing along the walls followed me as I meandered. The weird ways to display cooked eggs left an impression so deep I still don’t want to eat eggs today.

A quiet park next reminded me I was cold. Yet, the “I love Moscow” warmed me up. Then, the heart statue helped even more! Soon I saw people sitting down in front of a stage. Oh…the jazz festival! I didn’t know. Front row spot and I was ready. The clouds overhead threatened to disrupt the performance. The performers came out. Music. Relaxation. Rain drops came down. Like clockwork the umbrellas came up in unison. Not me. I didn’t have it. I moved to shade but decided to leave for more adventures.

Italian food. I was more than ready for good food. Pasta or pizza. Pizza…calzone. She explained it was folded. I said I knew but it literally folded in half. I never saw calzone literally half of a pizza. Either way, it was fantastic! The softly painted white walls with a painted mural of Italian life surrounded by serene music helped me settle into the plush booth as I ate the fresh doughy, spicy sauce, and hearty fillings. Yes. I was in heaven. I told the chef that when he “popped” in to ask us our opinion; delectable! Tiramisu for dessert and for disappointment. Oh well. Not everything can be perfect.

I had to go to at least one more park before returning home. Music welcomed me. I walked toward it hoping for joy. YES! Couples danced in unison so effortlessly and professionally. Quiet Russian music interspersed with hot salsa music; twirling, sashaying, dipping. I could only imagine the joy they experienced seeing their smiles and laughter filling the air. No matter what age! I especially like when the couples went in a circle while dancing individually. Lovely beyond measure!
