I haven’t driven since last year so I had to take my car for a drive. My car battery died last month. A friend helping me jump it. She suggested I buy a battery maintainer to continuously charge my car battery. What she didn’t tell me was that the battery maintainer actually TOOK power from my car battery when it was very cold and cloudy…which it was immediately after I connected it to my car. Of course, my car battery was dead again on Saturday morning! I called her again to help me. While helping me, she said there was another gadget to connect to the maintainer so it doesn’t take envery from the car in bad weather. I grit my teeth in frustration while smiling so she could once again start my car even though I wanted to ask her why she didn’t tell me this when she suggested I buy the battery maintainer in the first place. In the end, I will have to buy a new car battery before I leave Moscow!
I set off much later than planned only to meet Easter traffic and LOTS of it. What took me less than two hours to return to Moscow took me over three hours to drive to Kolomna. Stop and go and more stop and go. Next time I will leave much much much earlier!
I finally arrived to Kolomna, parked, and explored. People filled the churches with their Easter celebration. The church places long tables in front of the churches. People place round cakes with one long candle on the table. Sometimes they surrounded the round cakes with boiled eggs; some are dyed while others not. Priests then walked around the tables “blessing” the food and the people. The priests dipped a brush into a bowl filled with holy water to then move the brush in the air, in the shape of a cross, towards the people. A person came afterward carrying a basket where people placed food, Easter eggs, and other items. The wonderful weather helped the festive atmosphere even more.
Me…I excitedly entered the kremlin to see a world of old. Traditional homes surrounded the churches and monastery. People were simply excited to walk outside in warmth after the long winter. Yah! One of my highlights was visiting a photography museum. I consider myself a novice. This man was an expert. The light shining onto the wedding party showing a couple in love. The shade “twisted” to show the angst of life. The softness of nature blending with life. I soaked in every scene wishing I were there knowing I was at the same time.
However, seeing the camel trudging back and forth reminded me I was in Russia. I felt soooo sorry for the camel wanting to venture while being held back. Pulling myself away, I saw more tables and more people and more bread…and more blessings. People came and went with their cute baskets enthralled with Easter celebration.
I continued to walk. Soon came a stately kremlin tower hovering over me. What was even more interesting was the bread shop the teenagers “attacked”. I ventured for the bread shaped with a handle; sort of like a small. They pushed for their lollipops. I am glad I made it out safe and sound! Those kids needed to buy their souvenir lollipops! I…I wanted a cute shape bread. I bypassed a purchase in the cute pastry shop though even when tempted.
Dinner…well dinner meant a lot of water after a warm day. Missing steak, I ordered it knowing it would not be the best but missing it anyway. I was right. It tasted “normal” but not wonderful. I cut it, ate it, and filed it away as yet another meal. I needed the energy with such a long day. Left at 10:30. Returned at 9:30. Long day…
